Get Your Brain in Your Business

August 11, 2023

How are YOU and your BUSINESS doing? As you know, things in the world of business are constantly shifting. These last few years have been quite eventful to say the least and many businesses have been forced to pivot. Were you one of those? Some of those businesses have looked at new ways of operating and have stepped up and truly embraced the virtual world. Others have built or are building their company to go global instead of just central. If you want to do the same with your company or at least get it back to its level it previously was, Brain Lady Julie will share some incredible tips to help you out!

Let’s reevaluate. Tip #1- Take a step back and get what Julie calls the 10,000 foot view of your business. As they say, you cannot see the forest through the trees. As entrepreneurs we can get so involved in the day to day going on of our businesses, that we tend to not see enough and get stuck in the trees without seeing the view. Are you feeling that way right now? First, take a deep breath and physically stand back. Get a big piece of blank paper and do a brain dump. Get several colored pens or pencils and jot down everything in your brain and all you are feeling right now about your business, including your current challenges and frustrations. Try to not worry about making it perfect, incomplete sentences are simply fine. Also, write down anything that has been good and positive in the last year and what has been working well for you. In addition, write down what you feel you need to do and what you may need to work on. By jotting these things down instead of keeping them in your head, it will help your brain problem solve since it will see the big picture.

Tip #2- Use those colors on your brain dump. For example, you can designate red as problems, blue as things that are going really good for you, green as things you want to implement or to indicate something connected to money and gold for brilliant ideas. Use different colors! If it is too much to decide what colors to do for things before you brain dump, you can do it afterward.

Tip #3- Take that big piece of paper with your brain dump on it and tape it on the wall. You can step back and look at your business, what you want to work on and the positive things as well. Create a plan for what you want to do in the future and focus on that!

Tip #4- Outsource, outsource, outsource. It is good to remember you cannot do it all on your own. If you are thinking about outsourcing, make that step and hire an employee or employees and make it legal. If your company needs someone dedicated to you for a certain number of hours a week, figure it out and try to compensate with sales.

Tip #5- Remember the positive! Keep a growing word document of the positive things people have said about you and your business. When someone says something great about your product or your services, ask permission and if they are ok with it, put it in that document and quote them. If you seem to not have much positive feedback yet, ask around. You can do a follow up phone call with someone you provided a product or service for. If their expressions are negative, it is ok. That may show you what you need to work on and give you something to focus on to step it up. When you see this document, it can give you confidence and help you feel good by seeing what you are doing is great.

In review, get that big view of your business! Problem solve by taking a step back and take bite sized chunks. Now that you have direction, look at your calendar and put down deadlines. Write down which projects you are handling and which ones you can hand off. Keep the positives in mind and remember it is ok to have things you need to work on. Take deep breaths and focus on the future. By doing all of this, you will be able to evaluate which things are working well for your business and which things you need to work on. You got this!

Speaking of business, I am so excited to be working on a collaboration book with my Women Entrepreneur business. This book will be entitled "Women Excelling Everywhere". There is still space left for other women entrepreneurs who have been wanting to be a published author and have a story to tell. Now is your time to shine!
