May is Mental Health Awareness Month – Support Starts with Us

May 8, 2025

We recognize that mental health is essential to overall well-being. Mental Health Awareness Month is a timely reminder that caring for our mental and emotional health is just as important as caring for our physical health.

Whether someone is thriving or facing challenges, mental health impacts us all—and we all play a role in fostering a supportive workplace culture.

Here are five meaningful ways to support colleagues or loved ones who may be struggling:

1) Check in regularly – A brief message or genuine conversation can go a long way in making someone feel seen and supported.

2) Listen without judgment and offer empathy – Create a safe space by being present, respectful, and validating of their experiences.

3) Take time to learn about mental health conditions – Educating ourselves promotes understanding and reduces stigma.

4) Encourage professional support—without pressure – Gently suggest resources, while respecting each person’s comfort level and timing.

5) Normalize the conversation around mental health – Speaking openly helps build a culture where it’s okay to ask for help.

Let's continue to uplift one another, speak kindly and prioritize both mental health and emotional well-being, in May and every month.
